Dr. Mitra graduated from NSCB Medical College and completed his Post-Graduate training in Surgery from GMC Bhopal, India. He underwent further specialized training in Laparoscopic Surgery at FORTIS Hospital and served as a Visiting Physician at The Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, USA, where he trained in Advanced Laparoscopic and Gastrointestinal Surgical Procedures.

His international training includes Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery at the prestigious European Institute of Telesurgery (EITS-IRCAD), University of Strasbourg, France, where he was awarded the Diploma in Laparoscopic Surgery (DLS). He completed a 6-month Fellowship in Colorectal & Metabolic Surgery at China Medical University Hospital, Taichung, Taiwan, receiving advanced training in Laparoscopic Colorectal & Bariatric Surgery. Dr. Mitra also trained in Trans Anal Hemorrhoidal Dearterialization (THD) under Prof. Carlo Ratto at The Agostino Gemelli University Hospital, Rome, and completed specialized training in LASER Surgery in Proctology at Ospedali Privati Forli, Villa Serena, Italy.

Dr. Mitra was awarded the Diploma in Hernia Essentials by The Asia Pacific Hernia Society (APHS). In addition to his FACS fellowship, he is a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons (FICS), Chicago, USA, and a Fellow of the Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endo-Surgeons (FIAGES). He is an International Member of the Society of American Gastroenterologic & Endoscopic Surgeons, SAGES (USA).

With more than 20 years of independent surgical practice, Dr. Mitra has served internationally as a Staff Specialist Laparoscopic & General Surgeon at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Guyana and as a Specialist Laparoscopic Surgeon at Suva Private Hospital, Fiji. He also served as a Visiting Consultant to The Colonial War Memorial Hospital, Suva, Fiji, where he mentored postgraduate trainees in General Surgery.
